19th Century Childs School Sampler/Hendon Board Sunderland
A lovely piece of history, a 19th Century Childs School Sampler from Hendon Board School in Sunderland, a town in the North East of England.
This sweet work shows that Flora Atkinson was so proficient, aged just 13 years old, that this wonderful sampler was shown at Hendon Parish Flower Show and Exhibition.
We can see that she could make a button and make a button hole, stitch in beautifully straight lines, her cross stitch is perfect and she can pleat too, how clever was she.
It was framed in the 1980's and we have left it as it is.
